FUNDRAISING EVENTS
‘Get on Stage’ Charity Lunch
The 'Get On Stage' Charity Lunch is presented by Riverside Theatres in support of Workshops in the Arts for People with Disabilities. The second annual event was held on the Main Stage at Riverside Theatre on Friday 27 May 2011 with Grant Dodwell as MC and Guest Speaker, Wendy Harmer and raised $45,000
Workshops in the Arts for People with Disabilities (WAPD) has been run by Riverside Theatres for over 14 years – 40 weeks a year, 6 sessions a week for people with severe to mild physical and intellectual disabilities including but not limited to Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Visual Impairment. One of the most professionally run programs of its type in NSW, the workshops focus on improving and developing skills in movement, drama, dance and singing. The classes are designed to encourage group and individual participation, whilst developing physical wellbeing, confidence and self esteem. Participants perform at an End of Year concert on the main stage at Parramatta’s Riverside Theatre showcasing some of the year’s work.
In November 2009 a group of local Parramatta businessmen led by Rod Morrissey of NAB and Riad Tayeh of deVries Tayeh formed a committee to raise funds for this worthwhile cause. The three course luncheon is held on the main stage at Riverside and is a highly anticipated annual event in the Western Sydney business calendar. Guests participate in raffles, a live auction and a silent auction – all in support of WAPD. The 2012 event is tentatively scheduled for May 2012.
